Zoning & Building Permit Applications
Effective immediately, Salisbury Township will be accepting zoning and building permit applications. All applications must be submitted either electronically or through the mail. There will be no in-person drop off available. Submissions can be emailed to khval@salisburylehighpa.gov or mailed to: Salisbury Township, Community Development Office/Permit Application, 2900 South Pike Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103. Upon submission, all applications will be reviewed within the required time limits.
Because the Township’s third-party inspection agency, Barry Isett & Assoc., Inc., has ceased inspection services effective 03/20/20 (with the exception of emergency or critical-need projects), only permits approved for work deemed essential, or granted an exemption by the State’s Department of Community and Economic Development, will be released to the applicant. All non-essential permits will be held until the Order has been lifted and normal operations resume. This determination will be communicated to the applicant. Planning Submissions & Zoning Appeals
Effective immediately, Salisbury Township will be accepting planning submissions and zoning appeals, as long as a waiver of the time requirements is included. Planning submissions and zoning appeals must also be submitted either electronically or through the mail. They can be emailed to krabold@salisburylehighpa.gov or mailed to: Salisbury Township, Community Development Office/Appeal, 2900 South Pike Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103. Since no meetings or hearings have been scheduled until further notice, planning submissions and zoning appeals submitted will be placed on the appropriate agenda, in the order of submission, once meetings and hearings have resumed. There will be no more than four cases per agenda. For further guidance on these matters, and for a copy of the required waivers, please contact Kerry Rabold at krabold@salisburylehighpa.gov.
Burning Ordinance and Brush Fires
Burning Ordinance and Brush Fires: Salisbury Township has had multiple brush fires over the past week that could have been prevented. This is a reminder that while all drop off centers are closed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, open burning is still a violation of Salisbury Township Ordinances. It is imperative that everyone follows the ordinance on burning for the safety of the property owners, neighbors, and firefighters. The police department will be enforcing violations of the burning ordinance along with our fire inspection division. If you have any questions or concerns you can call 610-797-1447 and speak with an officer or fire inspector.
From the Township Manager: We can appreciate everyone’s wish to return to some degree of normalcy and wanting to get outside and be productive, but Governor Wolf has enacted a stay-at-home order through at least April 30 and banned travel except for that which is necessary. Grocery stores and pharmacies qualify as necessary; however, opening drop-offs and encouraging Township residents to travel to and from sites is not. While our entire staff continues to work and be functional to the greatest extent possible during these unprecedented times, we are making sure we keep them as safe and socially distant – from one another and the public – as possible. By doing so, we are not only protecting our employees but also our residents. Manning the drop-off sites so that we could open them to the public would certainly defeat that purpose.
I truly do apologize for any inconvenience, but we’ll proceed with exercising an abundance of caution and hope we can have your cooperation in doing so. Both sites will remain closed at least until April 30, and thereafter, we’ll assess the situation once we’ve received further information from the Governor. If the stay-at-home order is extended for an additional period, then alternative arrangements may be considered at that time.
In the meantime, please attempt to either contain your yard waste materials on your premises or compost such materials. Allow grass clippings to just lay and mulch into the lawn while mowing.
We ask that everyone please be patient as we navigate these unchartered waters, and we’ll all get through this together.
